"Creating a work of art which captures the likeness of Sammy Davis Jr. is particularly challenging. Sammy Davis Jr. is too large to contain in any one vision. My artistic goal became one of paying tribute to his lifetime contributions, affirming and honoring an entertainment giant. This artwork speaks of Sammy Davis Jr., the humanitarian and his maturation and spiritual growth."

A bronze sculpture of entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. will be dedicated at 7 pm, Saturday at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza, 720 Twin Lakes Drive.

The sculpture is by local artist Constancia Gafeney. It was commissioned by the City of Las Vegas Arts Commission as a tribute to Davis' lifetime of contributions.

The artist also sculpted a statue of Martin Luther King Jr. for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge in Toledo, Ohio. She has worked on other commissions in Toledo and has exhibited her work throughout the country.
